Chinese energy sector attracts investors


China Taiwan investors yesterday showed interest in the energy sector considering that Panama is showing signs of being an attractive market for investment.

The Agency for Investment Promotion and Export Panama (Proinvex) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Mici) office, received yesterday at the headquarters of the ministry to a delegation of investors from the Republic of China Taiwan.
The Panamanian Minister of Commerce and Industries, Augusto Arosemena, received in his office the President of the Board of External Trade Development Taiwan, Kuo Hsin Liang, who led the trade mission composed by Taiwanese entrepreneurs energy, agriculture and food.

Taiwan is the fifth largest investor in Panama, with 24 companies registered, 1 which is a multinational headquarters 7 operating in the Colon Free Zone and other places its investments in the logistics sector and financial services.

The most recent and remarkable investment of Taiwan in Panama was the expansion of the port of Colon Container Terminal (Evergreen), which was invested more than $ 150 million.

At the meeting the benefits of the country for foreign direct investment, as some legislations were exposed.


Foreign investors are attracted by different regulations and legal instruments, such as Zone Law, Law Offices Multinational Law Colon Free Zone and the Law on Legal Stability of Investments, which offer multiple options and benefits according to commercial activity perform as well as the possibility of settling in special economic zones.
